Mono A Mono

October 1, 2013

The central point of monotheistic religion is this: you are not God. There is no God but God, and you ain’t Him, Her, or It. There is no greater sin than to confuse yourself with God. And yet it seems the the actual result of monotheism is to endlessly reproduce this very sin. People cannot hear “God” without thinking “Me.” Not as a direct translation. It is just that the God they understand is the God they understand, the one of their own mind. Only those without belief can escape this trap. They alone can keep the faith.

This is the paradox of monotheism, and the reason for its failure.
